I adore favour bags. I know some people think they are a bit strange, and not something that is really ‘done’ in New Zealand. But I love the idea of putting together a little thank you gift for people attending a celebration of mine… I think it’s a lovely gesture: like sending a thank you card to someone who had me over for dinner, or putting little love notes in my daughters’ lunchboxes. It’s an exercise in gratitude.
Favour bags for littlies parties prove troublesome however, because I want something that will be fun and useful for the recipients, but don’t want to spend a ridiculous amount of money. I want something that won’t annoy parents (think noisy, messy, flimsy) too much but will still provide lots of fun for the kiddies.
So, here’s what I came up with:
In each bag, I included
- a balloon
- a little box of pebbles (which are Lola’s favourite!)
- a container of bubble mixture which I decorated with a round sticker of the happy yellow guy.
- Colouring pages: I scanned a few of my favourite pages from Oh the Places You’ll Go and asked Barry to remove all the colour from them in photoshop. I printed out 4 to a page, cut them and put them into sets… and then tied each set with some more baker’s twine.
- Coloured pencils… I purchased sets of small coloured pencils from the Warehouse and separated them into sets of 6. Using little glassine bags to store them, I sealed the bags with some more washi tape (!) and a sticker.
