{Inspire} They said it best…

I am an avid quote collector.  Just ask my husband.  He married me knowing this: that he would spend a lifetime surrounded by notebooks half-filled with other people’s words.  Poor him, but I’m sure it could be worse!

Here are a few I have come across recently which have really spoken to my soul…

  • “Every child begins the world again…”

by Henry Thoreau (quoted here on Oh My Handmade Goodness)

  • “…The twinning of  loss and love seems suddenly to explain everything:  To devote ourselves properly to one another, we must brave love’s terrifying undertow, which is grief.  I am awed, suddenly, by our courage to love each other as recklessly as we do.  Awkward and confused, rational and godless – I am all of these things.  And yet this moment must be what people mean when they speak of grace.”

by Catherine Newman (quoted here on A Design So Vast)

  • “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul.”

by Emily Dickenson (quoted here in this amazing creativity workbook by Jessika Hepburn)

Original source unknown, help me out if you can read the little signature in the bottom-right corner – I obviously need new contacts! (found on pinterest, via Joie De Vivre)

  • “Woman was born to create… in creating she becomes herself, accomplishes her destiny.  Her whole life is only an initiation into creative power.  To create is not merely to produce a work…  it is to give out ones own individuality.”

by Jeanne De Vietinghoff (quoted here on one of my very favourite places on the interweb, Dandee)

Phew, Ok I’ll stop now, but I’ve got a huge store of these… so I’m thinking I’ll be posting some of my favies once a week… please send me an email or write me a note in the comments section below, if you have any favies of your own.

Oh yes! I love that someone living a different life, from a different time and place is able to get into my head and articulate my thoughts and feelings much better than I ever could! I always get a tingle of excitement when I read a quote that speaks to me in this way! H xo

I read a great quote today that is echoing in my head – ‘Expectations are the death of serenity.’ So true, but I never thought of it that way!

Hi Steph, I have not heard this quote before now, but you’re right – it is so true. I am terrible at getting caught up in my own expectations – I need to learn to go with the flow more – become more serene!! Thanks so much for sharing. H xo

I love the quote by Emily Dickinson. And I too am a collector of quotes. They often give me comfort.
