I am an avid quote collector. Just ask my husband. He married me knowing this: that he would spend a lifetime surrounded by notebooks half-filled with other people’s words. Poor him, but I’m sure it could be worse!
Here are a few I have come across recently which have really spoken to my soul…
- “Every child begins the world again…”
by Henry Thoreau (quoted here on Oh My Handmade Goodness)
- “…The twinning of loss and love seems suddenly to explain everything: To devote ourselves properly to one another, we must brave love’s terrifying undertow, which is grief. I am awed, suddenly, by our courage to love each other as recklessly as we do. Awkward and confused, rational and godless – I am all of these things. And yet this moment must be what people mean when they speak of grace.”
by Catherine Newman (quoted here on A Design So Vast)
- “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul.”
- “Woman was born to create… in creating she becomes herself, accomplishes her destiny. Her whole life is only an initiation into creative power. To create is not merely to produce a work… it is to give out ones own individuality.”
by Jeanne De Vietinghoff (quoted here on one of my very favourite places on the interweb, Dandee)
Phew, Ok I’ll stop now, but I’ve got a huge store of these… so I’m thinking I’ll be posting some of my favies once a week… please send me an email or write me a note in the comments section below, if you have any favies of your own.
