{Inspire} Know this…

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.  We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I not to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’  Actually, who are you not to be?  … And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”

Same here! Sometimes I feel as if I’ve been trained to be mediocre because it intimidates other people (and I don’t want to be rude and intimidating), but I look at those that really shine, and they’re often the most generous, kind folks around.

Oh yes Ihilani – I so get what you’re saying! In NZ we have this thing we call ‘tall poppy syndrome’ … basically as a nation we are quite uncomfortable with watching other people shine, and feel inclined to knock them down… I’m not sure where that comes from, and it certainly isn’t every body, but I think it is a notion that all New Zealanders are familiar with.

For me, I think that the older I get, the more I realise that I need to back myself. You know, I need to really believe in my own abilities and feel confident enough to put myself out there – because if I don’t believe in myself first, how can I expect any one else to? But it is such a scary thing to do that, to take that first step… what I am learning though, is that once you can do that, the world opens up to you. H xo
