{make} embroidery hoop crazy

Hello Lovely Adventurer,

I’m so glad you popped by today!  So many months after I bought the fabric… too many months after Belle was born, AND quite a few weeks after I showed you this photo, I have finally finished my little embroidery hoop project for Belle’s nursery.

There are still a few more things to do with her room, and I decided if I waited until it was all ready to go, I probably wouldn’t share these with you until sometime next year!  So I took a few photos yesterday afternoon and here they are:

In case you were wondering, the fabric is from the Cloud 9  My Happy Nursery collection.  I bought the embroidery hoops, cotton and beads from Spotlight.

I’ve not used embroidery hoops before, so was a little baffled as to the correct technique, but after securing and trimming the fabric, I used PVA glue to fasten it down.  I also backed each hoop with felt before starting the embroidery, as I thought it would be a little more stable then… I don’t think that’s how the pros do it, just quietly!

Again, not sure I’m using the proper terminology, but for the hoop with the text on it, I:

  1. Printed out the text I wanted using a pretty font named Airplanes in the Night Sky
  2. Then, using a fancy waxy pencil and my iron, I transferred the words onto my fabric
  3. After securing the fabric into the hoop as I mentioned above, I backstitched over the font with a contrasting embroidery thread.
It’s not perfect.  I can still see the pencil lines in some places, but I’m quite fond of it… and like I always tell myself when my crafty projects don’t turn out quite right, at least you can tell it’s homemade and from the heart, right!?

Oh, and if you are looking for a little more embroidery hoop inspiration… you should check out my dedicated Pinterest board!!

…And because I just can’t resist, here’s a picture of the Sweetness herself from a couple of days ago…
