{inspire} My Creative Space

Hello friend!

I hope you had a lovely weekend!  Mine was pretty exciting.  Yesterday, Barry ran his first half-marathon, and my brother-in-law ran in his first full marathon.  My sister-in-law and I took the girls down to watch the guys finish their respective races… and I admit I got a little teary (not hard for me!) – I was so proud!!  While watching the finishers, I was especially touched when I saw a couple cross the finish line holding hands, and then also a mother-daughter pair doing the same.  Super cool.

Also, I wanted to thank those of you who responded to my last post, in the comments section, or by email.  I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and beliefs – I feel so comforted reading your thoughtful responses.

Today I wanted to share with you a couple of photos of the space where I spend most of my creative time.  I would love to have a dedicated office or studio, but at the moment I have claimed a little corner of our lounge!

Generally the space is even more chaotic than it looks in these photos, but I had to tidy up for some photos I needed to take of a little project I am working on.

It’s pretty busy… if you couldn’t tell already – I love explosions of colour and am drawn to vibrant patterns.

I would say I exist in a creative chaos… probably to my detriment!  I find it difficult to focus on one thing at a time, and often have at least 3 or 4 things I’m working on at any one time.  To the untrained eye, it looks like complete mayhem (mmm… perhaps to the trained eye also!) … but I always feel energised when I’m making something.

Earlier in the year I took a Myers-Briggs personality test, which told me I was an introvert (no surprises there!) but what I didn’t know was that introverts are energised by self-reflection and spending time by themselves.  When I think about it, that makes perfect sense for me, and explains why I am at my happiest when I am pottering about writing, or doodling or making something.

How about you?   Do you have a dedicated creative space – for writing or crafting or making art?  Do you exist in chaos or like things to be orderly?  When do you feel your happiest?  Is it when you are making something, or spending time with family and friends, or maybe when you are outside in the sun?

Wishing for you a lovely week, full of adventure!

    Hi Hana!

I love your space, all the bursts of color, and the creative chaos you have going on there. Just like you, I also find it hard to focus on one thing at a time, and I always have multiple projects going at once. By nature I’m an organized person, but when I’m at my craft table, it generally looks like a wreck with crafty bits and pieces all over the place.

I’m an introvert, too, and I’m usually happiest when I’m on my own creating, writing, or reading a good book.

Hi Jennifer! Hmmm… maybe it’s just a crafty by-product to have a little chaos going on? I do wish I had a room though where I could close the doors and hide it away! H xo

I love your creative space! I hope to make mine as bright and happy as yours!

I came out an introvert in the test too and I have no problems entertaining myself with creative stuff on my own. ^_^ I love an occasional social gathering but preferably with very close family and friends whom I can be comfortable with.

Hi Mariwitch! Thanks so much for your lovely comments – so sweet! I am the same as you – definitely more comfortable with smaller social gatherings. I think part of the reason I love blogging so much, is it is a way to express myself without feeling too shy. H xo

Your space is great, and I love that it is a part of your “lounge”. Is that like a den or family room kiwi-style? :-) I have looked at corners of our house and thought about making something like that happen, you, indeed, *inspired* me!

Hi Erin! So glad you are feeling inspired! Ha! I didn’t realise that no one else calls it a lounge…hmmm, yep I guess similar to a family room? It’s where we hang out, the couches are in there and the telly… it’s good too, as the kids’ playroom is just next door, so when they are playing I can work on my projects while keeping an eye on them.
