My children don’t sleep in their own beds.
I literally CAN NOT remember the last time Barry and I had a whole night in bed without visitors.
Of course, it’s our own fault. We are both total pushovers, and there is something lovely about having the girls come in for cuddles in the middle of the night. On the other hand, there is nothing lovely about being kicked in the head by your two-year-old at 4 in the morning!
So… we recently decided after having one too many restless nights, that we needed to do something about this. After many attempts we’ve learned there’s not a lot of logical reasoning to be had with a two-year-old and four-year-old. A couple of nights ago we tried simple bribery: you sleep in your bed all night for the next four nights and we will buy you a toy on the weekend. Did that work?
Time for my dastardly plan to corrupt my little ones: I wondered if perhaps a little visual bribery might work a little better. Today, while Ava was at kindy, Lola and I spent the morning decorating the jars pictured above. We filled them with ten freddo frogs each and put them on their bedside table. Before the girls went to bed tonight we told them that each night they sleep a full night in their own bed they will get a freddo frog the next morning – before breakfast even!
Once they have eaten all the freddo frogs (and slept 10 nights in their own beds!!) they get to visit the toy shop for a big reward!! I am hoping the fact that we can show them the jar full of yummy chocolate when they wake up in the middle of the night might be enough to coax them back into their own beds. What do you think?? Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for us – and hopefully I’ll be able to report back with good news soon!!
