The Dumbledore Manifesto by Striking Truths

Hello Friend,
I had so many links I wanted to include this week it took me a while to work out what to include… I’ve managed to get it down to a baker’s dozen (which is still probably too much!!) but hopefully you’ll find loads of interesting reads in there!!
  • I’m a huge Harry Potter fan (who isn’t, right!?) and I also happen to be a huge fan of all the cool manifestos that work their way around blog-land… so what happens when you combine the two?  The Dumbledore Manifesto (pictured above) ….If you check out the website Striking Truths they update their site with a new manifesto every week day, drawing on all sorts of inspiration!
  • This is such a fantastic idea… how to make hot chocolate extra special (oh, and easy too!)… found over at The Creative Mama
  • I’d like to try making these felt fortune cookies
  • Ruby Ellen of My Cakies put together the most amazing birthday for her six-year-old… seriously – you MUST look at the photos on this post and this post!!
  • I’ve decided to print off this list and hang it in my kitchen – whenever I think cooking with the girls is getting too hard or too frustrating I’ll have a read.
  • Kathreen from Whipup is having a blogging break – but instead of her blog going on hiatus she has introduced this cool creativity series pack full of inspiration from a huge variety of guest bloggers… I’ll be following for sure.
  • If you want inspiration to create something the kids in your community will be talking about for a Very Long Time… check out these two posts (here and here) by Jennifer of Classic Play (oh, and the video is super-dooper cool!!)  …   Love this: “Now, is it crazy to put on an art show because one of your kids mentions it? Well, yeah, it is. But it’s my kind of crazy. I figure if a kid comes to you with a dream that you can help turn into a reality? Well, that’s a lesson for life. If you dream it, and you work towards it, and you enlist the help of friends to get it done, you can accomplish just about anything.”
  • Sometimes it’s hard to find crafty activities appropriate for Lola – as the younger sister, I often find she wants to do exactly what Ava is doing, but she can’t always manage it (sometimes the fine-motor skills required are just a little beyond her) – and it frustrates her to pieces some days.  This little craft looks perfect though, and we’ll be giving it a go this week sometime.
  • I’ll also be following this new series by Alissa at Creative with Kids… it looks like there’s going to be heaps of great ideas for me to use with both Lola and Belle.
  • Ava had her first school visit last Friday.  Her kindy took the ten oldest children for a morning at the school she will be starting in October.  I can hardly believe she is almost old enough for school – man how quickly five years can pass by!!  She’s shown a real interest in reading and writing lately, and I’ve been keen to help her out when I can, although I must admit I am at a real loss as to how to ‘teach’ her to read.  There are some great ideas on the web though… I came across this post during the week, and all the suggestions seemed like loads of fun versus ‘serious learning time’ which is always nice!
  • An interesting read on children in ‘flow’ and at their happiest.
  • TV-free is one of those concepts I’ve toyed with even before we had the girls… Although I still haven’t made that decision, I came across this thought provoking list in favour of becoming TV-free – an interesting read, for sure.
  • A recipe to try: Mushroom and Rocket Pizza – yummy!

Well, friend, wishing you the loveliest of weeks … one full of happy adventures!  If  you’ve got any lovely links of your own, please share them in the comments section below.

You’re welcome Alissa! My Belle has had much fun destroying a couple of selected pieces of artwork now! It’s just teaching her that doesn’t give her free reign to destroy everything – a careful balance!! Can’t wait to see the activities you’ll have up next!

Thanks for sharing our link about going TV-free. You can check out our journey to becoming a TV-free home here: We still watch an occasional Netflix video on our computer, but it is very intentional and limited. Feel free to ask any questions in case I can help support you make the big jump towards getting rid of the big screen!

Hey thanks Jen. It is easy for the telly to just become a really relied on part of the furniture. I’m pretty sure there will have to be some pretty serious negotiation with my hubby at this point though! But I’ll be sure to check out your blog.
