Today my friend Jennifer will be sharing her ideas for making family traditions and celebrating every day life in our Magical Days interview series. Jennifer and I met last year while participating in Holly Becker’s Blogging Your Way ecourse. Jennifer is a woman after my own heart – generous and talented, she shares her gorgeous crafty ideas for turning every occasion into a truly magical moment…
1. Did your family have any memorable family traditions when you were a child?
My mom and I used to bake salt dough ornaments at Christmas time. I loved using the garlic press to make dough “hair” for our ornament people. I’m really looking forward to making these with my daughter.
2. One of our favourite times of day to connect as a family is story time. What have been your favourite books to read to your children?
We’ve been really enjoying the Max & Ruby by Rosemary Wells.
3. Do you have any special ways to celebrate milestones & special occasions in your family?
Being an event planner by trade celebrations are a BIG deal to me :-) Details, details, details! For me it’s all about incorporating lots of details into a party. They can be drawn from the personality of the guest of honor or theme for the event. It’s the details that tend to get (& keep!) guest’s talking!
4. Which holiday occasion (or season) does your family enjoy celebrating most?
Well, I’m all about Celebrating Everyday Life – hence the name of my blog but if I had to pick one holiday that I admit to spending more time on, then I would say Christmas! But truly, I love all holidays!
5. What is one of your favourite things about being a Mama?
I love sharing everyday with my daughter. Seriously – she surprises and amazes me all the time. Seeing her learn new things is awesome but there’s nothing like cuddle time :-)
6. Any words of wisdom for making life both easier and more joyful?
Try not to make everything “perfect”. If the house is a little messy some days – that’s ok. Enojying time together as a family is way more important to me than having a spotless kitchen.
7. What are some of your favourite ways to spend time together as a family?
It’s Fall here right now so I’m all about spending time outside. Visiting the local apple orchards, pumpkin patches, parks and the like. It’s a great time to get outside, run around and enjoy the fresh air!
8. Who inspires you?
My daughter inspires me all the time. She doesn’t worry and fret about life and I’m prone to do a lot of that – she reminds me to put my faith in God and not in myself. When I do that, I rest and relax and that’s when we have the most fun and I get fresh inspiration for projects!
I’m with Jennifer, Christmas is definitely my favourite time of year (we will begin our celebrations on Thursday!) …I remember making salt dough ornaments when I was younger – I think the girls and I will definitely have to give those a go over the next few weeks. Jennifer’s been posting some really lovely ideas for celebrating Autumn and Halloween on her blog – even if you’re like me and experiencing the first days of beautiful sunny weather, she’ll have you embracing her sweet Autumnal crafts and recipes!
